Cycling is more than just a sport—it’s a lifestyle, a challenge, and a way to connect with people and places. Our CIOVITA ambassadors embody this passion, each bringing their own unique experiences and insights to the road. From their favourite routes to the gear they can’t ride without, we asked some of our ambassadors a few questions to get a glimpse into their cycling journeys.
Mamello Letsie
"My favourite cycling route is the Old Mutual Double Century. It’s my favourite because it’s both a true test of endurance and incredibly scenic—from the mountains of Tradouw to the Jacarandas in full bloom. The combination of a demanding course and breathtaking views makes it an unforgettable ride." The Old Mutual Double Century poses 202km of racing in a circular route - not an easy feat to say the least.
When it comes to must-have gear, Mamello never rides without her phone. "I can’t ride without my phone. Not just for emergencies, but I love capturing moments with my people." For her, cycling isn’t just about the ride—it’s about the memories made along the way.
Courteney Webb
For Courteney, comfort in the saddle is everything, and the one piece of cycling gear she can’t ride without is a high-quality pair of bibs. "A good-fitting, quality pair of bibs! It sounds boring, but once you’ve ridden in uncomfortable bibs and then switched to a pair that makes you forget about your saddle, you can never go back. We all start somewhere—I started with hand-me-down shorts and bibs (looking back… wow, my poor bum). Since buying my first quality pair at university, I know this is one area I’ll never compromise on!"
When it comes to favourite routes, she has a deep appreciation for the hidden gems of Cape Town. "Loops around the Cape Town suburbs! They are so underrated. Everyone loves the classic Chapman’s Peak route—and yes, it’s stunning—but there’s something magical about riding through the leafy suburbs. The quiet roads and hidden paths make it feel like my little secret. I’ve been training here since school, and sometimes, it feels like I’m the only one who knows about them. On days when I just want to ride without worrying about traffic or wind, these are my go-to!"
Kgotso Bapela
Every great ride starts with proper fuel, and for Kgotso, that means a solid pre-ride meal. "I always have to eat before a ride—oatmeal is my go-to, but they must have honey! My must-have snack is a banana—you can never go wrong with that."
When it comes to favourite routes, the Atlantic Seaboard, situated along Cape Town's globally renowned coastline, is his top pick. With its mix of stunning ocean views and challenging climbs, it’s a route that never gets old.
As for kit, he keeps it simple but effective. "Apex and Corsa bibs." Comfort and performance go hand in hand, and for Kgotso, the right gear makes all the difference on the road.
Jess Wilkinson
Sometimes, the best cycling advice is the simplest. For Jess, one tip has stuck with her: "Hack to stay on the back wheel."
Beyond the technical side of the sport, Jess values the sense of community that comes with riding for CIOVITA. "Being part of a fun, supportive, and welcoming community. Cycling can be an intimidating sport, but with this family, I always feel encouraged, included, and right at home." To her, CIOVITA is more than a brand—it’s a team that makes every ride feel like a shared adventure.
